Dr. Jane Goodall - March 2009
I will remember November 3rd, 2008 as one of the most memorable days of my life. I was honored to not only meet Dr. Jane Goodall personally, but I was afforded the opportunity to spend some extended personal one-on-one time with her and to share and be part of an event that was in her honor. Her very personable demeanor and her pleasant personality turned my awe of being in her presence into a very enjoyable and comfortable experience. more

Good Boy Blue ... Former Refuge Resident ... by Shellie Robertson
We love happy endings, and that certainly has been Blue's destiny. A young wolf-dog rescued from an animal shelter in California, two years ago Blue had no future at all. He was going to be euthanized simply because he is a wolf-dog. more
What is meant to be will find its way."Stevie Nicole Painter
Stevie Nicole Painter was born on January 14, 1989 in Bristol, Pennsylvania. She is described as an artistic animal lover, an "old soul" who was wise beyond her years and seemed to have a clear understanding of what makes life important. She knew that it was not money, not what you did or did not do; she saw beneath the superficial. Stevie did not judge others by color, creed, size, preference, and she overlooked shortcomings in others, only interested in digging deeper, knowing more. Imperfections, which are subjective judgments, others may see, she either did not observe or perceive in that way, or perhaps it was the "difference," that individuality, that actually drew her closer... She had a consistent, cognitive belief that life would unfold, and as she drove in her car to see her boyfriend, Pedro, on Sunday evening, she possessed this same wisdom, and the same solid beliefs and contentment of spirit in her heart. On Myspace, her written words were: "what is meant to be will find its way." more
Federally Protected Gray Wolf - Found Shot (July 2007)
ASHLAND, Ore. -- On Friday, July 13, 2007 a mature female wolf was found dead and partially decomposed on private land near Elgin, OR. Federal wildlife forensics examiners notified agency staff at the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) that the wolf had originated from the Idaho wild wolf population and died from wounds inflicted by a high-powered rifle. The announcement from ODFW was noted as bittersweet by conservation organizations, which heralded the first confirmation in seven years of a wild wolf in the state, and simultaneously mourned her demise.  more
Removing Federal Protections for gray wolves
Gray wolves in the Great Lakes have lost Endangered Species Act protections, with the Bush administration also pushing to remove federal protection for wolves in the northern Rockies within the year. Endangered Grey WolfManagement of wolves in the Great Lakes was turned over to the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan in March. The same could happen with states in the northern Rockies, even though officials in Idaho and Wyoming intend to kill the majority of the wolf population there. more
Obama Takes Action to Restore Strength to Endangered Species Act
(March 3, 2009) The Endangered Species Act, our country's most important wildlife law has survived the despicable assault of the Bush administration. President Obama has directed all federal agencies to once again consult with independent scientists at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to determine if their actions might harm threatened and endangered species. This action will limit the damage caused by the last-minute Endangered Species Act regulations put in place by the Bush Administration in December 2008. Read the entire article.
New Secretary of Interior Shows His True Colors (March 2009)

March 6, 2009

President Obama's new Secretary of Interior revealed his true colors very early in his tenure. Newly appointed Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced that he would follow the discredited path of the Bush Administration and remove the wolves in the Northern Rockies and Greater Yellowstone regions from the Endangered Species list. He was highly touted as being very amiable and a consensus builder. But his second act since being in office turns out to be very polarizing. This delisting paves the way for almost 1000 wolves to be killed under the deadly state management plans of Idaho and Montana. more...
