2010 Tax-Deductible Donations

We understand that in this difficult economy it is not easy to donate to organizations such as ours. Family most definitely comes first. However, if the opportunity arises, please think of us when making a Tax-Deductible donation this year. Our "pack" always appreciates the help from our supporters. It's easy to visit our website and click onto "Paypal".

YOUR REFUGE DESPERATELY NEEDS YOUR HELP

Our Refuge is a non-profit organization which means that we can only stay open thru donations and volunteers. DONATIONS are CRITICAL and have dwindled considerably. If we are to continue our work we need your help. PLEASE send in a donation in ANY amount. Our newsletter is sent out to approximately 550 people ~ if everyone sent in a one time $5.00 donation it would total $2,750.00!

How can you help us?

  1. VOTE for us on www.petfoliomagazine.com EVERY DAY so that we can hopefully place again in this fundraising event +$$$
  2. Recommend Adopt-a-Wolf gifts to family & friends +$$$
  3. Give our web address to family & friends so that they might get involved and possibly donate +$$$
  4. Send in donations whenever you can +$$$

Where do your donations go?

  1. We have outstanding veterinarian bills to pay -$$$
  2. We have a new rescue animal that needs to be spayed -$$$
  3. We always need materials for projects & repairs -$$$
  4. Donations pay costs of transporting rescue animals -$$$

A very sincere thank you to the 3 people that answered our "HOWL for Help" in the April Newsletter!

Don’t let a bunch of FERRETS beat our WOLVES!
WE NEED YOUR VOTES!!!
Pet Folio Magazine Logo

PLEASE help the refuge by going onto www.petfoliomagazine.com
EVERY DAY and vote for the U.S. Wolf Refuge in Petfolio's Readers Choice Awards Contest. At this time, we're in a battle for first place with a FERRET Rescue! We can't let the Ferrets beat our WOLVES!!! Ask your family and friends to vote too…it only takes a minute to do and YOU CAN VOTE ONCE EVERY DAY. Last year we came in 2nd Place and we would love to come in 1st this year. This is a wonderful fundraising event that the magazine holds every year in July. They divide the proceeds from the whole event between the top three non-profit groups.

THANKS FOR HELPING US LAST YEAR & THIS YEAR TOO!

Coming to the Rescue of the "Refuge"

American Nutrition, ABF Freight System & Western Nevada Supply

AFB Freight System aids the Wolf RefugeWe were extremely fortunate to receive a large donation of dog food from our friends at American Nutrition in Utah just a few weeks ago. Problem…the food is in Utah and needs to get to Nevada. We contacted ABF Freight System and told them our dilemma. They immediately came back to say that they would pick up the shipment the next day and transport it for FREE.

Our friends at Western Nevada Supply in Sparks offered us the use of their receiving dock and once the shipment arrived they put it on one of their trucks and delivered it to the refuge. We couldn’t have done this without their help. Thank you!

In the Spotlight

MEET "MIRA" (the "Not-a-Wolf-Dog")

Shellie and Voyager January 2010"Mira" (miracle) is our newest rescue from Modesto California. She is about two years old and was on the shelter's "kill list" when we were called to rescue a wolf-dog.

Upon arrival at the shelter it was very apparent that Mira was not a wolf-dog, but her fate was sealed. We could not bear to turn our backs on this sweet dog knowing that she would be euthanized as soon as we left her behind.

Shortly after Mira arrived at the refuge she became very sick. Our veterinarian was shocked that she was so sick and immediately gave her a huge shot of antibiotics. We also bought her special food to try to encourage her to eat.

We are not sure what happened to Mira, but when we got back to the refuge volunteer Tammy Boatwright noticed something on her stomach. It was a huge tick that was already dying, probably from the elevation and temperatures at the refuge. We called Dr. Adams and she said that Mira may have indeed contracted something from that tick.

She's doing well after few days of pampering and daily antibiotics. Now we must get Mira spayed before we find her a new home. This wonderful girl is definitely a house dog. She is devoted, VERY loving & adores kids. Anyone would be lucky to add her to their family. If you’d like to meet Mira, please contact Bill Chamberlain at the refuge.

May Pack Member of the Month

"Shadow"

Stubby and Curley"Shadow" couldn't be named more appropriately. He's very shy (as many wolves/wolf-dogs are) and likes to stand back in the shadows. USWR Volunteer Chris Mikulice has been working with him whenever she has the opportunity and is earning his trust. We hope that by the end of this summer Shadow will come completely out of his shell and begin interacting more with people and other pack members. To read Shadow's entire story visit U.S. Wolf Refuge's Resident "Shadow"
