2011 Tax-Deductible Donations
We understand that in this difficult economy it is not easy to donate to organizations such as ours. Family most definitely comes first. However, if the opportunity arises, please think of us when making a Tax-Deductible donation this year. Our "pack" always appreciates the help from our supporters.

What's Been Going on in Temerity's World?
We’re gearing up to have a celebration next month to wish our “Ms. T” a very HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY. Bill will have to prepare a special birthday dinner for Temerity and her house pack which now includes Takoda while he is undergoing his heart worm treatments. Athena and Arrow welcomed Takoda with open “paws” into their little world most likely sensing that he needs some extra TLC while he receives his daily medications. Destiny has been calming down a bit (hurray!!!) which we are attributing to her constantly being around the other adult pack members.
The refuge received its first Fall/Winter snow two weeks ago … just a few inches which the pack REALLY loves.
"Curly" Joins His Brothers
There’s an empty kennel and an empty spot in our hearts as we mourn the loss of the last of the pack members from Idaho CURLY.
Curly would have been 15 years old this coming February.
Because of his progressing hip dysplasia the difficult decision was made to have Curly humanely euthanized so that he wouldn’t suffer thru another Winter with the mud and snow that was becoming so difficult for him.
It is somewhat comforting to think that Curly is now running again painlessly on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge with his brothers Stubby and Floppy.
"Mariah" needs a new home ...
Although it is breaking our volunteer Lorna's heart, she has decided that our recent rescue animal Mariah needs to go to a new home where she is the ONLY pet. Over the past couple of months while Lorna has been fostering 6-1/2 yr. old Mariah, she and her three other dogs (11 year old
Golden “Bailey”, 11 year old English Lab “Kapri” and her 3 legged Chihuahua “Brutus”) have been able to really get to know Mariah very well. Although Mariah is just about the sweetest, most loving thing on four legs and is very devoted to her person, those actions are not always extended to Mariahs other canine companions, especially the female dog “Kapri”. In the past, Mariah has stayed with a much larger male dog with no issues and she SEEMS to be alright with Bailey & Brutus which are male dogs. Lorna has grown to love Mariah very much but, of course, there is no question that Lorna must be protective of her own dogs so she has decided to try to place Mariah into a new home and she feels it would be best if she is the only pet.
Lorna says that the ideal new person for Mariah would be able to devote a lot of one-on-one time to her, walk her daily, perhaps work from home or is retired, and be content with Mariah being the only dog/wolf-dog in their lives. If you would like to speak to Lorna about the possibility of meeting Mariah to potentially be her adopter, please email her at barleys1@hotmail.com or call her at (775) 742-5786. Any potential adopter must also complete the U.S. Wolf Refuge adoption application as well as make themselves available for home checks etc.
Pack Member of the Month
When TAKODA joined our pack in October 2011 we had no idea what a wonderful animal he is. Our volunteer Donna Carlton must have somehow sensed it because she is the person that found the PERFECT new name him. TAKODA is Sioux meaning “friend to all”.
Takoda has stolen Bill Chamberlain’s heart. Although he loves all animals Bill has always been drawn to the black wolves. Takoda is not totally black but his coat is darker tones.
In an effort to make Takoda’s heart worm recovery easier for the animal, Bill has brought Takoda INTO his home to temporarily live with Temerity, Athena, Arrow and Destiny. Takoda moved right in as if he’s been living with these other animals his entire life. He gets along well with everyone and everyone gets along well with him.
The future plans for this magnificent animal may include him and Kasa moving into the newest 3 acre enclosure together as soon as Takoda has recovered and the enclosure is completed.
If you would like to make a small contribution towards Takoda’s heart worm medications, please make the donation thru our website with a notation that the donation is for Takoda.
