2012 Tax-Deductible Donations

We understand that in this difficult economy it is not easy to donate to organizations such as ours. Family most definitely comes first. However, if the opportunity arises, please think of us when making a Tax-Deductible donation this year. Our "pack" always appreciates the help from our supporters.

What's New in "T's" World

Temerity - 16th BirthdayNow that "Dad" is well and back to work, there hasn't been a lot of exciting news from the home front. The House Pack (Temerity, Athena, Arrow, Destiny & Takoda) are all doing well. Destiny is growing by leaps & bounds and Takoda has completed his heart worm treatments and will be re-tested in July to see if all is well. Athena's getting plump and Temerity (who's now 16 yrs. old) is still putting up with them ALL!!! That girl is amazing.

So far, Old Man Winter has been good to us...but who's to say for how long. Last winter was brutal but the previous year was down right horrible. Of course, these animals love it all, the colder the better as far as they're concerned.

The only critters that aren't that thrilled with the cold temperatures and snow everywhere are the kitties. Did I ever mention the CATS that are a part of the House Pack? Technically they are part of the group but Snuggles, Cricket and Spunky have the pleasure of sharing Bill's bedroom with him. In their world they have a very large room with multiple kitty-condos, a large window sill to sun themselves on, and cute little beds everywhere. Unlike Temerity, Athena, Arrow, Destiny & Takoda these cute little kitties have the option of warming Bill's feet ON the bed with him each night.

In the Spotlight

The California Wolf!

The big news (if you haven't already heard) is that a 2-1/2 year old lone wolf, from one of the packs in Northeast Temerity - 16th BirthdayOregon, has made his way over the Oregon/California border and as of the last update is meandering thru Northern California not too far from the Nevada border.

This is INCREDIBLE news that a lot of California residents could have only dreamed of seeing in their lifetime. The last reported wild wolf in California was in 1924.

Oregon Gray Wolf #OR-7 has been named "Journey" and you can follow the news about him on the Dept. of Fish & Games website www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/nongame/wolf/. The website is only updated every few weeks or so For The Protection of the Wolf.

You can bet that we're all going to be checking up on him as much as we can. If you look at the last map that they posted on their website, you will see Pyramid Lake just east the wolf's last reported location. Pyramid Lake is about a 30 minute drive (5 minutes as the crow flies) from where our refuge is located. "Journey" might sing to our Pack someday soon ~ we can dream, can't we?

Pack Member of the Month
"Comanche"

This month Comanche wears the title of "Pack Member of the Month". Comanche has been with us since May 2008. He is by far one of our highest content Wolf-Dogs and the more time that goes by, the more we all genuinely love and respect him for the magnificent animal that he is.

Mariah ... looking for a homeWhen Comanche first joined our pack we had more to learn about him than any of us could have ever imagined. He had lived thru horrible abuse with his former owner and it was literally a miracle that he was still alive. You always wish they could talk to tell you what happened so that you can promise them that they will never, ever, feel any pain or abuse of any kind from you, but we had to learn about Comanche the hard way ~ thru trial and error. Simple things like stroking him the wrong way or gently pulling a tuft of fur from his coat could result in this poor animal (in his mind) reliving something bad from his past and he in turn trying to inflict that pain on us. Believe me... there is nothing in this world that will grab your attention faster than this large animal baring all of his teeth at YOU! Luckily, that hasn't happened in a long, long time.

I think that although Comanche will never forget his past, he is happy in the life he now leads at the refuge and that he knows each of us well enough now that he completely trusts and loves us the best that he can.

Comanche will live his entire life with us. Because of his past he is not adoptable, but we all love him so much that I don't think any of us could bare to let him leave anyway.

Since Comanche is the Pack Member of the Month, for the entire month of February 2012, his "ADOPT-A-WOLF" packet will be offered for $20.00. This purchase will help care for Comanche and his pack.

If You Like Motorcycles ...

The U.S. Wolf Refuge has been the lucky recipient of a motorcycle that was donated to sell to raise money for our animals. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area (or within driving distance) and are interested in purchasing our 2000 Harley Davidson Sportster XL1200 that only has 5798 original miles on it (yes, five thousand-seven hundred-ninety- eight miles), please email Shellie@USWolfRefuge.org .

Since this beautiful Sportster is being sold for Charity, we are hoping to sell it slightly above Blue Book for $4500. All reasonable offers will be considered. We cannot ship this out of state - any out of state purchaser will have to provide their own transportation.
