2011 Tax-Deductible Donations

We understand that in this difficult economy it is not easy to donate to organizations such as ours. Family most definitely comes first. However, if the opportunity arises, please think of us when making a Tax-Deductible donation this year. Our "pack" always appreciates the help from our supporters.

What's Been Going on in Temerity's World?

Once again, on March 31st, Bill was admitted into the hospital for what we are hoping will be the last extensive week long round of chemotherapy. He was in the hospital until April 5th. He is welcoming a five week break in the treatments before moving on to the next step in combating this horrible cancer which will be radiation treatments everyday for 8 weeks. Bill's doctor is happy with the results so far. It's not over, but he's about half way there!

Stanford PowWow

Bandit is available for adoptionThe STANFORD POWWOW is just around the corner. We check-in on Friday May 6th to set-up our booth. Start a new tradition in your family and make Mother's Day Weekend extra special ~ bring Mom or Grandma and the WHOLE FAMILY to visit us at the Stanford Powwow at the Eucalyptus Grove on the grounds of the Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. Visit www.stanfordpowwow.org for directions and times.

Once you attend this exciting event and watch the Native American Dancing & Drumming Competitions you will want to be a regular every year. There are also many craft and food vendors (Indian Tacos…yum).

The U.S. Wolf Refuge booth will be offering Quilt Raffle Tickets for sale along with many of the items offered in our on-line gift shop for fundraising. Our "craftier" volunteers have made stunning jewelry as well. You will be able to see many photos of volunteers working at the refuge as well as photos of our pack members.

VOLUNTEER TO HELP US AT THE POWWOW!!! We need people to help us setup, take-down, and work in our booth at the PowWow in Palo Alto, California.

If you are interested in helping, contact: Shellie@USWolfRefuge.org.

THE WOLVES WERE HUNGRY…

Bandit is available for adoptionThe wolves are always hungry and our supply of donated dog food was getting VERY low until American Nutrition once again came thru for us. After a phone call to this wonderful company we were assured that they would have 6200 lbs. of high protein dry dog food ready to ship out that same day! That's enough food to feed our hungry pack for about eight months!

Bandit is available for adoptionJust like last year ABF Freight System donated the transportation from the dog food manufacturer to our good friends with a receiving dock, Western Nevada Supply in Sparks, NV. Western Nevada Supply then brought it all the way up to the refuge for us on their truck.

Bandit is available for adoptionI hope these companies know how grateful we are to them for their help. They are honorary pack members for LIFE! A big wolfie "Owwwwwooo" (that's wolf for Thank You!) goes out to American Nutrition, ABF Freight System & Western Nevada Supply.

Bandit is available for adoptionU.S. WOLF REFUGE SEMI-ANNUAL
VOLUNTEER CAMP-OUT & WORK WEEKEND

For the past few years the U.S. Wolf Refuge has annually held two "official" work-weekends. The first being Memorial Day weekend in May and the second being during the Labor Day weekend in September.

Memorial Day (May 28th thru 30th) is approaching quickly and anyone interested in coming up to the refuge to CAMP-OUT and HELP-OUT, please contact Shellie@uswolfrefuge.org. Although the weather is usually a bit unpredictable in May we are hoping Spring will arrive and we will be able to finish building our 2nd three acre enclosure which will be the new home for pack members Tully & Bandit. It is imperative that you RSVP so that arrangements can be made in advance for things such as the hosted BBQ Saturday night and Port-a-Potties etc..

As usual the refuge will host a BBQ Saturday evening. There will be adequate refrigerators to store any of your food that cannot be contained in a camping cooler. Wind permitting, we will have socializing around a campfire in the evenings where we can all howl along with the pack. There is LIMITED availability for sharing the volunteer trailer which is set-up to comfortably sleep 6 (more on the floor). These arrangements must be made in advance with Shellie@uswolfrefuge.org .

14 year-old TemerityPACK MEMBER OF THE MONTH

"TYRA"

14 year old TYRA is more than just a little special. This very wolfie little lady originally came to the U.S. Wolf Refuge in 1998 when it was still located in Arizona, via the Arizona Humane Society

In 2000 when Bill moved to the current location in Nevada, he brought with him 13 pack members. Three of those animals are "Senior Citizens", still alive and with us today in 2011 ~ Tyra, Temerity, and Curly.

After Tyra moved to Nevada she found herself a new home in 2003. Her new owner was a magician and Tyra became his assistant up on the stage, however in 2008 due to uncontrollable circumstances he brought Tyra "home" to the refuge once again. He still checks in with us now and then to make sure she's doing well. She is in retirement and will live the remainder of her years here with us.

Tyra does not enjoy the company of any of our female pack members but she seems quite comfortable residing next door to Comanche. Although Tyra is beginning to show signs of aging she is a very young 14, still quite able to run around with the fastest of them.
