2010 Tax-Deductible Donations
We understand that in this difficult economy it is not easy to donate to organizations such as ours. Family most definitely comes first. However, if the opportunity arises, please think of us when making a Tax-Deductible donation this year. Our "pack" always appreciates the help from our supporters.

Party Crashers
There's nothing more beautiful than a warm, quiet summer evening with a million stars in the sky. Maybe you're even lucky enough to have a full moon (or almost) and then once in the while our pack begins to sing for you…sometimes starting out with the howl of just one animal and then the others join in one by one. This was our idea of heaven UNTIL our new neighbors moved in.
For the last month or two the wonderful sounds from our pack have been drowned out by the "yipping" of the pair (or small pack) of COYOTES that have decided to den on the slope of a nearby hill at the refuge.
Amazingly enough, these uninvited guests seem to have absolutely no fear at all of our MUCH larger wolves and wolf-dogs. Of course, our pack is tucked away safely into their pens within the large compound every night when these "party crashers" pay us a visit, but however odd it may seem, these animals boldly wander around close to our pack, as well as the main house and the volunteer trailer. Most likely they are hunting for mice and rats (which is a good thing since they're a problem at the refuge), serenading us every night while they do it, having a "yip-yip-yipping-good time" until sunrise. Hopefully they move on after their young are born!

Pack Member of the Month
Comanche
There's no one better to represent everything that our refuge stands for than "Comanche".
This troubled animal came to us from San Jose California a few years ago. He had been the victim of severe abuse, taken into protective custody by animal control officers with two embedded chains in his neck. No one knows better than the U.S. Wolf Staff how this has impacted his life. Comanche struggles daily to get past his trust issues with people. It breaks your heart to think about what he has lived thru.
We fully expect Comanche to live the remainder of his life with us at the refuge, with the few people that truly love and understand him. We try to trust him, and he tries very hard to put his trust in us, but no matter what we will never give up on him and never ever abandon him, as he was in the past.
Comanche is not alone. Many "domesticated" wolves and wolf-dogs suffer abuse and abandonment every year at the hands of frustrated owners who had no idea how these animals could impact their lives. Education is key…before you adopt a wolf or wolf-dog please educate yourself.
Adopt-a-Wolf Orders
