2010 Tax-Deductible Donations
We understand that in this difficult economy it is not easy to donate to organizations such as ours. Family most definitely comes first. However, if the opportunity arises, please think of us when making a Tax-Deductible donation this year. Our "pack" always appreciates the help from our supporters.

In The Spotlight - 2010 WCN Event

As you are reading this month's newsletter, we are packing up to attend the 2010 WCN Event at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco. This is the first time that we will be setting up our "Information/Fundraising Booth" at this event. Last year we were honored to have been guests of Dr. Jane Goodall at the event and had the pleasure of meeting her there."
We will be offering a large selection of fundraising items which will incude some of our wonderful new embroidered hats and tote bags, new water bottles, t-shirts and a selection of handcrafted necklaces and earrings. All proceeds from the sale of our items goes to the refuge.
Attending the WCN Event gives us yet another opportunity to educate people about these magnificent animals, as well as possibly recruit new volunteers. Wish us luck!!!
"Mira" is Adopted
Mira, our little miracle girl that was rescued from the animal shelter in Modesto last March, has found a new home! She is currently living with her new family which includes her new best friend and playmate, a wonderful, playful Springer Spaniel.
If you all recall, after several phone calls from the Modesto Animal Shelter insisting that they had a Wolf-Dog at their facility, volunteers Shellie & Chris made the drive to Modesto to meet this "Wolf-Dog". Upon our arrival we were presented with a small, skinny, very loving white DOG that weighed all of maybe 40 lbs wringing wet! We told them once again that she was not a Wolf-Dog and asked what her fate was if we decided not to take her. She was already on the "kill" list. As this little sweetheart sat at our feet, looking up into our eyes, we called Bill to give him the news. We couldn't turn and walk away knowing what was undoubtedly going to happen to her. "Mira" as she was later named (Miracle) was transported to the refuge to become our newest pack member.
We soon found out that Mira had been so sweet because she was not only on deaths doorstep being at the shelter, but she was deathly ill. After an emergency run to our vet, Mira was given a few blood tests and a huge dose of antibiotics. We also purchased special food to put some meat on those skinny bones! We believe that Mira was sick from a huge tick that she carried with her from Modesto.
We love happy endings, and this ending couldn't be happier. We adopted out a very healthy, perfectly plump, playful and fuzzy white DOG to her new family!
"TULLY" comes back home…
Tully has moved back home! (Darn kids!!!) We missed him but are really sorry that his new home didn't work out. There's the perfect match for him out there somewhere, and we have no doubt that we will find it for him soon. In the meantime there are some happy critters running and playing with this big boy showing him how happy they are to see him again.
Pack Member of the Month for October
Kasa
April 4, 2009 turned out to be one of the most important days in the history of the U.S. Wolf Refuge thus far. That's the day that we rescued "Kasa" from the Amador County Animal Shelter.
Kasa has proven herself to be beyond valuable as a perfect ambassador for Wolf-Dogs and the U.S. Wolf Refuge. She represents our refuge with dignity as if she is royalty. Her playful, extremely affectionate personality makes her an absolute joy to be around, as Aries can attest to. The two of them have become quite bonded which is exactly what we had hoped for. Anyone who meets this magnificent girl is instantly drawn to her and everyone is instantly mesmerized by her deep amber eyes and her beauty.
We look forward to the many years that we will have with this very, very special animal.
"LOBO" is now officially "BANDIT"
Last month we introduced our newest Pack Member "Lobo" to all of you. We told you that we thought there had to be a more fitting name for this huge "Masked" man. Lobo is now officially named BANDIT!
