2011 Tax-Deductible Donations

We understand that in this difficult economy it is not easy to donate to organizations such as ours. Family most definitely comes first. However, if the opportunity arises, please think of us when making a Tax-Deductible donation this year. Our "pack" always appreciates the help from our supporters.

Temerity and DestinyWhat's Goin' on in Temerity's World?

"What's been goin' on??? I'll tell you what's been going on ~ we have a new baby in the house that is driving me bananas! DESTINY (below) is the newest addition to our house pack and there are very few moments of peace and quiet. She and Arrow play-play-play – sometimes they literally bounce off the furniture right over the top of me. When I've had enough I get up and growl right in their faces at each of them, but do they listen to me…NO, do they stop…NO! She gets into all of Dad's papers and chews them up. She ate three of Dad's hats. I don't know why but he loves her ~ and when she comes up to me and curls up next to me on my bed, I have to admit that I love her too…darn kids!"

And the Big Winner Is …

The 2011 U.S. Wolf Refuge Raffle

winner Michelle Reyes gets her new quilt
On Saturday, September 24th the U.S. Wolf Refuge Staff and some of our volunteers met at Manny & Olga's Pizza in Spanish Springs, Nevada for a Pizza Party and the Raffle Ticket Drawing. All 500 tickets would not fit into our ticket drum so they were all transferred into a big PIZZA BOX (how fitting is that!) so that they could be thoroughly mixed and the winning ticket drawn.

We asked the co-owner of Manny & Olga's Pizza, Nancy Arciniega, to do us the honor of drawing the winning ticket.

The Winner of the beautiful "Wolf Song" quilt is Michelle Reys of Elk Grove, California.

It was so much fun hearing the excitement in Michelle's voice when she received the phone call Saturday night. Luckily Elk Grove (just a little South of Sacramento) was on the way home for staff members Shellie & Chris so we were able to present Michelle with her new quilt personally.

Congratulations Michelle.

We're Pleased to Introduce You to "Destiny"

DestinyDestiny is the newest addition to our pack. She is currently under evaluation and is in need of better socialization before we even think of offering this baby up for adoption.

DestinyDestiny was rescued from a California animal shelter after her owner found that she could no longer give her the special care that a Wolf-Dog requires. Although Destiny is good with other animals and has a very sweet and loving personality, she is extremely people shy, which as you all know, is oh so common with these critters. She bonds quickly but in the initial meeting she requires a lot of patience to get close to her. After she gets to know you she's your best friend.

Destiny is currently residing in the house at the refuge with Bill, Temerity, Athena and Arrow….what a hand full! She has wiggled her way right into the "House Pack" having the freedom to roam the house and use of the doggie door that has been installed for these animals to be able to exit the house into their own personalized play yard. As time goes on Destiny will be introduced to other members of our pack. We Shilohhave high hopes for this 8 month old cutie.

Pack Member of the Month

"Shiloh"

This month SHILOH is nominated as our Pack Member of the Month. Shiloh and her bonded companion Cherokee have lived at the refuge for a little more than 4 years. They came to us from Pahrump Nevada.

Shiloh is classified as "Available for Adoption" however it is highly unlikely since she is a "package deal". Without Shiloh her companion Cherokee would surely die of a broken heart and since he is one of our least social animals, he hinders her going elsewhere. Should anyone wish to give Shiloh a new home, this 8 year old would have to take her companion with her as well.

Shiloh is a friendly girl but she is most definitely an Alpha female. She lets all the other females in the pack know that she's the boss, even if they're out running and playing and she is still in her kennel. She's very pretty and very wolfie in appearance.

In the Spotlight

"Mariah"

Mariah and LornaThis pretty 6-1/2 year old is MARIAH. She comes to us originally from Clear Lake CA via Antioch CA. Her owner has been admitted into a home for Dementia patients and her wishes were that her former neighbor (who had recently relocated to Antioch CA) take Mariah if anything happened to her. He respected her wishes but he is now over 77 years old himself, not in the best of health, and has another very large dog. The two together proved to be too much for him and he asked for our help.

One of our wonderful U.S. Wolf Refuge volunteers, Lorna Corkery, agreed to foster Mariah and to also give some consideration to keeping her if she worked out well with her other dogs.

This low-content Wolfie girl is wonderful. She has been extremely well cared for and in this recent picture she is sporting her "Summer Hair-Do". She has been clipped for her comfort. She is used to being in the house pretty much full time, so she would not be happy being an outside-only pet that is left alone most of the time. We were also informed that Mariah has received training to be some kind of a Service Dog. Lorna is in the process of finding out what she has been trained for.

We received the wonderful news this past weekend that Mariah has found her NEW FOREVER HOME! Lorna has fallen in love with her and plans to keep her. Thank you so much Lorna for opening your heart and home to this wonderful animal in need.
