2011 Tax-Deductible Donations
We understand that in this difficult economy it is not easy to donate to organizations such as ours. Family most definitely comes first. However, if the opportunity arises, please think of us when making a Tax-Deductible donation this year. Our "pack" always appreciates the help from our supporters.

WHAT'S UP IN "T's" WORLD?

Our Ms. "T" (Temerity) is doing VERY well for the 15-1/2 year old girl that she is. "Dad" Bill Chamberlain has gone back to work. He's trying to take it slowly, a little at a time, but his employer missed him so much that she's keeping him MORE than busy.
Now its time for Bill to play "catch up" with the bills that have never stopped coming in while he was fighting the cancer. He couldn't work from January thru August. Thanks to those companies that have worked with us, SHAME on those that haven't "BofA"…
The pack will miss having Bill there 24/7 but all of our FANTASTIC VOLUNTEERS will be filling in for him. "VOLUNTEERS"… what a wonderful word! What would we have done without all of you (& you know who you are). "Thank You" just isn't enough.

Pack Member of the Month
"Shadow"
Anyone that has not met SHADOW is missing one of our more "Special" pack members. As hard as it is to believe, Shadow is actually a foreclosure pet from a home in California. I say "hard to believe" because Shadow is one of our "wolfiest" males that exhibit's very typical wolf behavior. He has always wanted little to zero contact with us human beings and does not hesitate to give you a huff or a puff to let you know that he wants to be left alone.
That was the case until Staff person Chris Mikulice began what was to be a very long on-going process of trying to socialize him. No matter how determined Chris is, she travels back and forth from California which limits her time with him, so another Staff person who is at the refuge on a very regular basis, Tammy Boatwright, has teamed up with Chris making sure that Shadow gets human interaction on a very regular basis. He has made incredible strides, which we all hope, will some day result in us being able to easily interact with him.
One of the best things we ever did for Shadow was to introduce him to Nala, a young female rescue. We noticed that Nala seemed to be quite intrigued with this handsome male so after much thought we decided to take a step forward. They were introduced face-to-face and the two of them are absolutely WONDERFUL together. They are now "roomies". They run and play together constantly and she keeps him on his toes. He's quite the "love-struck puppy" and he follows her everywhere.
Happy Birthday Trivia
One of our VERY special wolf-dog friends "TRIVIA" just had a big birthday.
Trivia, the wolf-dog that ALLOWS our webmaster Paul Van Dort to share her house with her, just turned 11 years old on August 15th.
A huge wolfie "AWOOOOOO" (that's Happy Birthday wolf style for those of you that don't speak "wolf") to our very special friend.
We love you Trivia !!!
In the Spotlight
The Last Wolf "Curly"
Thru the years all of our readers have met "CURLY", along with his two brothers Floppy and Stubby. Curly is one of three animals that the U.S. Wolf Refuge rescued from a wildlife facility in Idaho in 1997 called LIGERTOWN. The facility is no longer in existence.
In 1995 there was a major escape of animals from this facility and out of the wolves and wolf-dogs rounded up there were approximately 35 highly unsocialized wolves/wolf-dogs recovered. During the 1-1/2 years of legal litigation between the facility owners and local law authorities, the number of wolves/wolf-dogs grew to approximately 75 animals that ultimately had no place to go. You can read the entire story about Curly and his siblings on Curly's page on our website under "Our Resident Wolves".
Throughout the years Bill Chamberlain has kept in touch with one of the men in Idaho that was instrumental in the placement of all of these animals. Bill touched base with him recently when we lost Curly's brother Stubby (due to old age) and at that time Bill was told that to their knowledge Curly is now the last of these 75 animals living. Curly was 14 years old on February 9, 2011.
Curly's story, along with many others at our refuge, are testaments to why the U.S. Wolf Refuge exists. We not only rescue wolves/wolf-dogs that are "adoptable" (in the sense that we are able to re-home some of these wonderful animals to people that meet our strict requirements) but we are committed to provide sanctuary to the "un-adoptable" as well. If we accept an animal into our facility, that animal is guaranteed a home for LIFE. As an All-Volunteer, Non-Profit Organization we depend upon your continued support so that we can continue to help animals like Curly ~ to give them a safe haven to live out their lives.
